- Remember who you are dealing with. They are teenagers. One moment they are having a lively conversation with you and the next second you are the worst person in the world.
- Do not plan alone, get insights, feedback and review and revise the schedule with the family. Sometimes you might not want feedback, if that’s the case, e-mail them. They never read it, let alone reply.
- Make the trip enviable, not braggy, but make it cool. Inspire others, parents and kids.
- Use Social Media, this kind of goes with enviable. At some point my kid was jealous of all the kids at home. Really, selfies in the bathroom is better than skiing the rockies? Psht… Give the kids back home something to like.
- Plan something for everyone, and let them know what that is.
- Do not go too long. We have a max, 5 days alone, 7 if there are others to act as buffers.
- Have travel traditions, if it is collecting the smooshed pennies or have a special snack bag that is just for road trips. Keep it simple and special. Dean makes a soundtrack for all of our roadtrips.
- Social Media, create a hashtag for everyone to use. This will allow for everyone to see them all in one area.
- Phones- Set limits and take them away if necessary. I have been known to disconnect service, I did so after snapping this picture.
